From Katie: “Ken had just finished his MBA at Rice University in Houston, and we were taking a two-week road trip across the western United States in his 2005 Jeep Wrangler. We love going on adventures and being in the mountains/outdoors. We traveled through Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. The last stop was a place we had been a few times before – Ouray, Colorado. We absolutely love this tiny mountain town, and it is absolutely gorgeous. We met up with some friends there for the last few days of the trip. It was the final day, and at this point, I assumed that if he was going to propose on this trip, it would have already happened. We drove up a mountain trail that peaked at over 11,000 ft. with our closest friends, and Ken decided we needed to take pictures at the top of this rock mountain. We all hiked up to the top, and I was still unsuspecting. It was in the 40’s so I had on my big Carhartt jacket and my beanie. Ken kept asking if I was sure I wanted to wear my jacket, which at the time was strange because it was so cold, but I just insisted that I needed it. Once at the top, a friend of ours had us “pose” for a picture with Ken behind me, and when I turned around, he was down on one knee with the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen. I’m pretty sure I blacked out from shock, but somehow managed to squeak out a ‘yes’ and a head nod – ha! We opened a bottle of wine at the top of the mountain and drank with our friends! It was the most amazing day of my life so far!”
Katie and Ken’s September wedding will be held in Maine, where they first met over twelve years ago. Katie is envisioning lots of greenery and twinkling lights underneath a big white tent on the ocean. She aims for a simple, elegant style with touches of mauve and burgundy. Katie is most excited to incorporate some Houston flair into her Maine wedding as best as she can. No matter what she comes up with, we are sure that this couple’s big day will steal your heart. Congratulations, Katie and Ken!
