Austin Invitation Designer Spotlight Series – Design to Flourish
June 26
Austin brides, we’re so happy to introduce to you Kelli Coyle of Design to Flourish! Kelli considers herself a true southern girl, despite a stint on the east coast for college, and loves sporting a bright swipe of lipstick on the daily. She offers calligraphy, signage and custom gifts for couples who love a refined, classic look and want their details to make a statement! “My area of expertise has always been pointed pen calligraphy,” Kelli says. “There is just something about that hand-touched element that really adds those special details to your wedding day.”
For Kelli, the best part of the job is getting to see a couple’s reactions in person when they see their design come to life. “I love being able to deliver something that is exactly what they envisioned, if not better!” Elizabeth Denny Photography captured Kelli as she created an oh-so-sophisticated suite, complete with a personalized watercolor map, at Trinity Hall in downtown Austin. We hope you enjoy our chat below with her as we round out our Austin invitation designer spotlight series! Describe the design you created for this shoot : I’ve been really into emerald green lately and have been breaking out my watercolor palette in my spare time, so I knew I wanted to incorporate these two elements into the design. I always love when couples want to add a personal touch to their invitations, and a map of your city is the perfect way to do this. You can add your go-to spot to grab a bite, your favorite music venue, or the place where you first met, and it then becomes a picture of your relationship.
What inspires your overall designs? My couples! The best ideas usually come out of “I don’t know if this is possible, but…” and we get to create something that is totally unique for them.
What elements in your personal design/style set you apart in the wedding industry? I’m constantly trying out new mediums to work on. I’m always testing inks on different types of paper, fabrics and tiles. I’ve spent quite a bit of time roaming the aisles of Home Depot thinking about what else I can write on.
What are some trends you’re loving right now? Acrylic is a pretty big trend for wedding signage and I’ve enjoyed working on everything from place cards to six-foot-tall seating charts. I have also been seeing more requests for vellum come up, and I’m pretty excited about this one. There are so many things you can do with vellum, and let’s be honest – it’s just downright pretty!
So how did the name Design to Flourish come to be? “Even though I started out doing purely calligraphy, I knew I eventually wanted to expand into other areas of design,” Kelli explains. “The name came from the idea of collaborating with clients on everything from the initial design details to the last finishing flourishes!” To inquire with Design to Flourish, visit Kelli’s Brides of Austin vendor profile!
