NFL Player & Fiancé Plan Austin Nuptials with Brock & Co. Events

Along with the rest of the Austin wedding community, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the impending nuptials of Philadelphia Eagles star linebacker, Jordan Hicks, and his fiancé, Ivana Rodriguez. While living in Philadelphia during football season, the University of Texas alumni have been planning an Austin wedding from afar with the help and guidance of local wedding planning pros, Brock & Co. Events. With their wedding right around the corner (this Saturday in fact!), we were dying to know how the “destination” wedding planning was going. Take a peek at our Q&A with bride Ivana below to get to know this darling couple and hear her suggestions for planning from afar.

How did you and your fiancé meet?

It was fall of my senior year at the University of Texas when I met Jordan on campus through one of my best friends. He didn’t take long to ask about me or for my number after we had briefly met. Shortly after texting for a couple weeks, he asked me out on our first date, and the rest, so they say, is history.

How did your fiancé propose?

He proposed on a beautiful sail boat while we were out exploring the clear blue waters of Turks & Caicos.

What made you choose Austin as your wedding location?

Austin is home for both of us. We live here during the off-season and didn’t have to think twice about getting married here.

Have you had any challenges planning a wedding from afar?

Not at all. We are so fortunate to have chosen the perfect planners who have helped us so much throughout the entire planning process. They have been so helpful, patient and fun!

Who have been your key vendors in the planning process so far?

Our key vendors are our decor + floral vendors for sure – Townsley Designs and Botanical No. 9. We are putting so much detail into everything from lighting to florals to finishing touches that their services are key for.

Any advice to other brides planning “destination” weddings?

If you’re planning a wedding from afar, I highly recommend hiring a planner. It is so important to hire someone that you instantly connect with! Remember, you’ll be talking, texting, emailing and meeting with them throughout the entire process, so choose someone you can imagine building a friendship with. Plus, it just makes the process that much more fun and stress-free.

What is one of your favorite details about your upcoming wedding?

I love that we are incorporating details that show our culture, passion and style, from our specialty cocktail, “The Hicks-a-rita,” to mariachis to Longhorn popcorn favors. In the end, it’s our way of sharing a little bit of ourselves with everyone.

Congrats to Jordan and Ivana! We’ll be cheering from the sidelines come Saturday! And keep an eye out for their wedding feature in the upcoming Spring/Summer 2018 issue of Brides of Austin magazine!
