jessicaroop_beautyspotlight_blog

Beauty insight for the big day is on every bride’s mind, so we sat down with local hair and makeup artist Jessica Roop from Jessica Roop Beauty & Boudoir to bring you the 411 on the latest bridal beauty tips and trends!

What are the advantages of doing a make-up trial run before the big day?
The biggest advantage to scheduling a trial prior to the big day is that you can perfect your look with no sudden surprises or reactions the day of your wedding. Everyone’s skin is different and reacts different to products. A trial run will allow both you and your artist to pick what colors enhance your features best and test how the makeup settles into your skin and holds up throughout the day. This allows the bride to start the day fresh and worry free about how she will look for one of the most important days of her life. A trial will also allow you time to get to know your artist, who you will be spending a good portion of a very important day with. You want to make sure that you vibe well together.

What advice do you have  for a bride trying to find the right look for her day?
Keep it true to yourself. Your wedding photos are going to last through decades of different trends and styles. You want your wedding day makeup to enhance your best natural features.

What beauty product should every bride have with her at all times?
I don’t know if I can narrow it down to just one, but three must haves for touch ups for every bride the day of the wedding are lip gloss/stick to touch up throughout the day, blotting sheets for any shine from heat or nerves and a clean makeup brush to buff out any makeup that might settle into smile lines.

What beauty trends do you predict for the fall?
I think we will see more of that natural bridal glow with shimmery highlights in pearl, champagne and rose gold colors.

What’s your favorite shade of lipstick?
My go to for brides is usually something that is one shade darker than their natural color. I love Deverish lip liner by Mac Cosmetics paired with a blush or rosette lip gloss.

Do you recommend false lashes?
Yes! False lashes can totally complete the look. With so many photos being taken that day, the false lashes really help make the eyes stand out. My favorite lashes are mink lashes. They are so lightweight and natural feeling.

How can a bride keep her make-up looking fresh and flawless throughout her big day?
A good setting spray will help seal her makeup. Urban Decay All Nighter Spray is a must in this Texas heat. Also a little touch up kit with lip gloss/stick, blotting sheets and a clean makeup brush will help.

Any other helpful beauty tips for brides-to-be?
Great makeup starts with great skin. Be sure to drink plenty of water, get a good night’s sleep (if that’s possible with all the excitement). Talk to a dermatologist or esthetician at least six months prior to the event to plan a good beauty regimen. Lastly, schedule facials leading up the event with plenty of time to recover.
