THEIR STORY: In October 2010, David and Mackie met through mutual friends at Cain and Abel’s, the go-to spot in UT’s West Campus for Dollar Beer Tuesdays and Longhorn game watching. A bar may not be the most romantic spot to meet your future spouse, but whether it was the Texas Tea or David’s charm (or likely a combination of the two), David got Mackie’s number and convinced her to go out for Tex-Mex at Trudy’s with him later that week. Needless to say, it was Mackie’s best and last first date. A long-distance relationship began after graduation between New York City and Los Angeles, but after three years, Mackie headed to the West Cost for good.
PERFECT PROPOSAL: David poppped the question during a beautiful sunset on Santa Monica beach in January 2014. Mackie’s ring includes two trillions, taken from her grandmother’s engagement ring, set on either side of a cushion-cut diamond David selected.
DELICIOUS DISHES: David and Mackie wanted their wedding to tell their story as a couple – starting on the Gulf Coast and moving to the East Coast and the West Coast. Each of the three food stations centered around one of these special places in their relationship – a Texas Barbecue station (beef brisket, pulled pork cocktail sandwiches), a New York’s Little Italy station (butternut squash ravioli, lasagna Bolognese), and a California station (Baja fish tacos, chile rellenos). The his and hers signature drinks were from Schiller’s Liquor Bar in New York’s Lower East Side, a quick walk from Mackie’s former apartment, and from The Bungalow, a popular bar in Santa Monica that David and Mackie frequent with their friends.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT: David and Mackie shared a private moment together in the bride’s rose garden before the ceremony. Both loved the opportunity to see each other and catch up on the excitement of the day before celebrating with all of their guests on the dance floor.
