Shannon was days away from graduation in May 2012. She and her friends were knocking things off of the “Austin Bucket List” before she left for medical school in Philadelphia. One of Shannon’s friends had organized a group to go to Austin’s Greenbelt, a popular river hangout spot. What started as a rotten day with her car not starting and having to hitch a ride to the meeting spot, ended with her meeting Reid. While talking and joking with her friends, Shannon noticed a hunky, gentleman hanging with his friends. Subtlety has never been her strong suit, and she ended up getting both groups together that day. The day ended with an invitation to Reid’s group to join them for their graduation party that night. He showed up, and from that night on the two spent the entire summer together.
Reid and Shannon planned a vacation to Turkey and Greece. After a long day of walking 10+ miles full of sightseeing and eating, they went out to a rooftop bar overlooking downtown Athens and the beautiful Acropolis. Reid asked Shannon if she wanted to take a photo in front of the landscape, and while a stranger was taking their photo, Reid pulled a ring out of his pocket and proposed.
