Retro Meets Modern in this 90s Inspired Editorial

Offering a fun take on nostalgic nuptials, retro meets modern style in this editorial inspiration designed and styled by Heavenly Weddings. See how this planner works in a palette of punchy pastels and geometric shapes for a modern take on the playful 90s style in scenes captured by T Walker Photography. Often described as open and airy, The Milestone | Georgetown invokes a modern farmhouse feel. A beautiful bride models flawless wedding beauty styled by Sunny Hair and Makeup as well as a trumpet gown from Unbridaled featuring dramatic ruffle details on both the front and the back. For the most fun way to have a wedding photo booth, Vannagram & Co. brought their pink Volkswagen van, decorated with retro meets modern throw pillows galore. Colorful invitations and paper goods from Fine Day Press feature stylish typography with bold, die-cut paper in hues of rose, mustard, sage and terra cotta. These translate beautifully as place setting décor for the tablescape, and we love the springy, saturated centerpieces by Wildly Cultivated Floral Design that bring romance to this outdoor reception scene set with fine china, flatware and other pieces from Loot Rentals. For a touch of something sweet, Bonjour Brigadeiro Handcrafted Chocolate & Treats created these adorable brigadeiro desserts – passion fruit chocolate pyramids, salted caramel gems and key lime ruby chocolate cubes with fresh berries. Read on for a note from the planner as well as some of the other talented vendors that brought this retro meets modern wedding inspiration to life. Cheers!

From the planner, Makensie of Heavenly Weddings: “I was really aiming for a fun 90s vibe. My husband is a wedding DJ, and is constantly introducing me to new music. I got my inspirations from a mix of 90s music videos — I just loved the easiness of the fun vibe the 90s gave off.

From dessert artist Livia of Bonjour Brigadiero: “I went a bit more retro with the geometric hearts and pyramids. The little cubes were made of ruby chocolate which is known as the 4th type of chocolate (dark, milk, white and now ruby). It is naturally pink as the cocoa bean is pink. It pairs perfectly with citrusy fillings like lemon, key lime and passion fruit due to the acidic taste that ruby chocolate provides. In this case, I used a key lime filling, berry jam and fresh berries on top. As for the actual brigs, I just like to incorporate the flower wrappers as it adds some texture and volume. This time I went with pink shades.”

From the calligrapher, Ashley of Fine Day Press: “For this shoot, I was inspired by the unique color palette and a simple, modern sensibility. The design is focused on stylish typography with bold paper hues in rose, mustard, sage and terra cotta. One trend I’m into right now is incorporating die-cut shapes, especially circles and arches, for an unexpected touch!”
