Haley and Michael met while living in the same dorm during their freshman year at Texas A&M University. They spent a little time studying together that year, but reconnected in graduate school. She had just returned from a trip to New York City and he had recently accepted a job there. Discovering this connection, they grew closer and he asked her out. The pair shared a memorable first date – Haley spent the first 30 minutes finishing an assignment! – but they quickly became inseparable.

Michael surprised Haley by proposing at their favorite spot in Central Park on a chilly February day. Over the years, the couple would visit the spot for a picnic, listen to their favorite songs and enjoy the views. As they listened to music during this visit, Michael suggested Haley pose for a photo facing the skyline. When she turned around, she saw him down on one knee – an image she will never forget!
