JJ Picone and Phillip Niels Classic Austin Wedding at Westwood Country Club

PERFECT PROPOSAL: Phil and JJ love pizza, and one of their favorite date spots is Home Slice Pizza on South Congress. In August 2015, they went to Home Slice, and when JJ was about to eat her third piece, Phil got up to “go to the bathroom.” He was actually headed to the spot where he planned to propose. While JJ thought Phil was still in the bathroom, her sisters came to Home Slice with a book of every picture of the couple since the beginning of their relationship. Then, they took her to Doug Sahm Hill, which overlooks the city, and was where Phil was waiting. Not long after that, he got on one knee and proposed.

SETTING THE SCENE: Phil and JJ chose Smith Family Chapel because of its size and the beauty of the chapel. For their reception, they chose Westwood Country Club, for one, because it overlooks Lake Austin. Also, the country club could accommodate their large invite list – and they instantly clicked with the country club’s director of catering and events.

THE CAKE: The cake tasting was one of JJ’s favorite parts of wedding planning. All of the cakes were amazing, but the red velvet and vanilla were the best. The red velvet in particular was incredible. It was pretty much all she ate after returning from their honeymoon!

DELICIOUS DISHES: JJ and Phil had a lot of food at their reception. Different food items, prepared by Westwood Country Club, were available at stations throughout the country club, starting with a few different hors d’oeuvres. Guest also enjoyed fajitas, sliders, shrimp and grits at different stations. Later in the night, pizza slices were served out on the dance floor. And when guests were leaving, they were handed breakfast tacos from Texas Honey Ham.

ENTERTAINMENT: Royal Dukes Band played music for the reception. They had a great list of music that kept everyone on the dance floor all night long. Perfect music for a perfect night!
