Holly Marsh and Skip Korotva’s Elegant Rustic Austin Wedding Captured by The Bird and The Bear
SWEET BEGINNINGS: Although they were casual acquaintances for several years before their first date, Holly and Skip consider the true origin of their friendship and romance to have started during a birthday dinner almost six years ago. They sat next to each other, talking and laughing all night. That night was their last first date.
PERFECT PROPOSAL: Skip took Holly to their favorite park on a Saturday afternoon in May. Aside from the large picnic basket he packed, it seemed like a pretty ordinary outing. After feeding the ducks by the lake, Skip motioned for Holly to sit down with him. Skip then pulled a stack of photos from the basket. He went through each photo and described the memory associated with it. The story paired with the last photograph culminated with Skip getting down on one knee and telling Holly he never wanted to live without her – as he reached into the basket and pulled out a small ring box.
SETTING THE SCENE: Skip and Holly knew they wanted to get married outdoors so they could enjoy the rustic beauty of Austin’s hill country. However, they also wanted an elegant and sophisticated reception venue. Ma Maison’s pastoral scenery, paired with its palatial Great Hall, checked both of those boxes perfectly.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT: Aside from walking down the aisle, the most memorable moment of the evening for Holly happened near the end of the night. After dancing, laughing and mingling with their guests at the reception, Skip and Holly snuck off to a quiet corner of the room. They took a moment, just the two of them, to take it all in. They held hands and snacked on cake while no one was looking. It was one of few private moments they had during their wedding weekend.
THE CAKE: Simon Lee Bakery created a decadent three-layer cake: two layers of salted caramel vanilla and one layer of red velvet. The cake was simple but classy – decorated in white frosting, sprinkled lightly with gold flecks and topped with three blush roses.
