First Wedding Planning Steps to Take After You Get Engaged

You’re engaged! Now what? Our account executive, Quincy, is sharing her tips on the first wedding planning steps you should take!

Step One: Budget

When beginning your wedding planning process it is important to sit down with your partner, your parents, or whoever else may be helping you financially and set a budget! Before you are able to book any vendors you need to have a good idea of how much you are willing to spend. It is also important to take time with your partner and discuss which vendors and details are on the top of your list. Maybe you both really want a good DJ for your reception, make that a priority in the budget and then you can workout other vendors around it!

Step Two: Photographer/Videographer

Your photographer and videographer are vendors that you want to nail down early. They tend to book up quickly so the sooner you can find the perfect fit for you the more likely it is that they will be available! Finding your photographer early also allows you plenty of time to schedule engagement pictures for those save the dates and gives you time to make sure you’re getting exactly what you want!

Step 3: Guest List

Creating your guest list can be a little daunting at first but don’t be afraid to start big. You can begin with a large list that allows you to narrow down your numbers to the people you really want to share your special day with! Invite the people who make you two feel loved and supported! Don’t forget that your wedding is a day to celebrate you two as a couple! Whether you want a small intimate wedding or a huge celebration, do what feels right for the two of you. Make sure to reference your budget when you have your list narrowed down to ensure that you can afford to accommodate the amount of people you plan to invite!

Step 4: Venue

Once you have a guest number in mind you can go look for the perfect venue! There are so many options from rustic barns, to ballrooms, to a fun destination! Know your vision for your dream day and begin to find spaces that bring that vision to life. Once you find a venue, you can lock-in a date for your wedding and begin planning all the other details around it!

Step 5: Other Key Vendors

Having your date set allows you to begin searching for and hiring other vendors. At this point you may begin looking for a wedding planner, florists, caterers, and even start looking for that perfect dress! This is the time where you can start bringing all the details of your wedding vision to life and working with vendors to create your dream day! Don’t be afraid to ask questions and use the experience and creativity of your vendors, they do know a thing or two about weddings!

Step 6: Relax and Enjoy

Wedding planning can be very busy, but don’t let it take away from celebrating your engagement! Take time to step away from planning and just enjoy this season of engagement with your partner! Use this sweet time of being engaged to celebrate, relax, and dream about life after the wedding day!
