Colorful Outdoor Austin Wedding from Gypsy Floral & Events | Hayle + Jason
June 28
SWEET BEGINNINGS: Hayle had moved to Austin from California for work at the beginning of 2013. Jason was living in New York City for work where he’d moved from South Africa with his company. They met while both on vacation in Chicago. She was on a girls’ trip; he was on a guys’ weekend. They met at an Irish pub and hit it off thanks to his accent, and Hayle ended up giving him her number. The two hung out all three days in Chicago and decided to keep in touch. They officially started their long-distance relationship in April when Hayle visited Jason for the first time in NYC.
PERFECT PROPOSAL: The couple planned what Hayle thought was her 30th birthday trip to Mozambique and South Africa. They planned to relax on the beach, visit where Jason came from and meet his family. At the end of their 14-day trip, during which Jason was secretly carrying Hayle’s grandmother’s engagement ring around in his backpack, he proposed to her on his favorite beach, Noordhoek in Cape Town. Many of Jason’s hometown friends, parents, siblings and past co-workers were there and escorted Hayle with music and letters down to a spot on the beach where Jason was waiting with the ring.
DELICIOUS DISHES: Royal Fig Catering served appetizers and the couple’s signature cocktail, an Austin Mule with grapefruit, during the cocktail hour. They put together an amazing family-style feast with beef and fish for the dinner. Guests passed around huge plates of food at their communal tables, just like the couple and their family would at home. For dessert, Royal Fig created a dessert bar full of bite-sized donuts, chocolate, sauces and shots of milk.
VENDOR LOVE: Without their florists, Emily and Sunni of Gypsy Floral and Events, the wedding wouldn’t have looked and felt the way it did. While Hayle’s original vision of the altar included white fabric hanging in the tree, Gypsy Floral designed a space that almost made Hayle cry tears of joy. The florists went all out with lanterns, candles, flowers and a rug that tied everything together. The flowers were beyond beautiful and their design elements created a look Hayle didn’t think she could achieve with her budget.
