Narisa and Derek met in Austin in 2009. They both lived in the same apartment complex and ran into each other all over the city. They didn’t actually meet until they found themselves at the same bar in Dallas during Texas-OU weekend. They finally listened to fate and made that first introduction. They were meeting some friends for brunch in September 2016 when Derek insisted on stopping by a sign that had the word “kittens” on it. Narisa said they couldn’t get another cat, but Derek pulled the car over anyway. When she got out, Derek was on one knee, and their friends and family appeared out of nowhere!
Narisa walked down the aisle to Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling In Love.” Instead of a unity candle, they had a unity tree ceremony. Their parents brought soil from their homes, bringing some of their childhood homes into their new life together.
