PERFECT PROPOSAL: There is a cliff side that overlooks Lake Travis that has a set of wooden swings at the top. It was on these swings after dinner one night that Alex and Austin realized they had fallen in love. Two years later on Alex’s birthday, they were driving to meet up with her parents at the lake for dinner. Austin took her to the swings and told her he wanted to give her a birthday present before they got to her parent’s house. They pulled over and he had the bag ready. Austin gave her a set of earrings she had wanted. After Alex opened them, he handed her a handwritten letter where he described all the time they had already devoted to one another over miles of distance and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. As she neared the bottom of the letter, Austin got down on one knee and asked her to make him the happiest man in the world. She said, “Yes!”

SETTING THE SCENE: Growing up, Alex was a bit of tomboy. Since growing up in nature and being outdoors is a big part of who she is, Alex knew she wanted a venue that brought the outdoors in. The big pecan tree and huge glass ballroom at Barr Mansion sealed the deal for her and Austin. It felt like little pieces of home to them both. The venue wasn’t too rustic or at all stuffy or traditional, and it reminded Alex of her childhood playing under big pecan and oak trees. It was a perfect blend of relaxed and elegant.

DELICIOUS DISHES: Appetizers of devils on horseback and pork belly sliders were served during cocktail hour. Their menu included a tomato and melon salad with house ricotta and sherry vinaigrette, pull-apart sweet potato brioche bread, entrées of smoked Atlantic salmon, and pastrami-style beef tenderloin with horseradish sour cream. Sides of roasted sweet potatoes and yogurt, and caramelized squash wedges with sage-pecan pesto left everyone stuffed and satisfied. The food was all catered in-house by Barr Mansion and was absolutely incredible.

VENDOR LOVE: Barr Mansion and their planner Krystal Wigfield stole the show! Krystal had thoughtful questions and advice for Alex and Austin, and thought of every last detail. She made sure they could enjoy their day and not worry about any logistics. Everything ran smoothly, and exactly like they had discussed from their planning meetings up until the big day.
